Doara (do 'a ra)(Atlan- "All Lands") is the Atlan name for the world, and one that is commonly drawn from by other languages as a universal term for the planet itself. Doara is an Earth-like planet inhabited by humans, plants, and various fauna, and home to a rich history of various human cultures, languages and religions.

Continents Edit

Doara has four main landmasses, all of which are fully inhabited by human beings: Zointh, Kakhor, Jimbh, and Neckt. These names contitute the most universal terms for these continents as named by the people who live there, though names have varied over time and over languages and ethnicities.

Zointh Edit

From the common cartographical view of Doara, Zointh lies in the northwest quadrant of the globe.

Kakhor Edit

From the common cartographical view of Doara, Kakhor lies roughly in the center, with the northern coast of the continent ocassionally dipping north of the equator but the vast majority of the land lying in the southern hemisphere

Jimbh Edit

From the common cartographical view of Doara, Jimbh lies in the deep south, bridged across the "edge of the map" and shares about half of the landmass in the southeast and southwest quadrants

Neckt Edit

From the common cartographical view of Doara, Neckt lies in the northeast quadrant of the globe

Time and Calendar Edit

The Doaran year lasts about 7 Earth months, or 210 Earth days (30 weeks). Days are equivalent to Earths, being 24 hours long. They have 5 day weeks, adding up to 42 weeks per year, divided into 6, 7 week months.

To relate to Earth's timeline, the day December 7th, 2007 coincides with the first day of the first month, year 5000 on the current Doaran calendar. See some interesting date comparisons here.

Almost all of Doara has a seasonal climate, due to a heavy tilt on the planet's axis. There are three recognized seasons per year, lasting 2 months each (though each has a "peak day" which falls in the center of each seasonal window. For the purposes of understanding, the English terms hot, temperate, and cold will be used, though every culture has their own names for them. in Atlan, they were Omoimi ("hot wind"), Usaimi ("seafaring wind"), and Cumuimi ("cold wind"). The temperature fluctuates more closer to the poles, though the curviture of the planet offsets some of the heat found during the hot season in equatorial regions.
